The MEDCOM Project
Jean Monnet Module – University of Sfax

What is MEDCOM?
The MEDCOM Jean Monnet Module is a European Union-funded initiative designed to bring students and teachers at the University of Sfax closer to the history, values, and policies of the European Union. While it places a special focus on students in Romance language programmes, the initiative welcomes participation from across the university.

Why does it matter?
MEDCOM highlights the EU’s unique journey of cooperation, peace-building, and regional partnership, especially with the southern Mediterranean. The module offers a fresh perspective on the EU’s impact—past and present—on culture, economy, and society.

What does it offer?
MEDCOM is an invitation to explore the European Union through a multidisciplinary lens. Over the course of three academic years (2025 - 2027), participants will benefit from:

• 120 hours of specialized teaching per year, focused on key themes in European Studies, including EU history, institutions, policies, and external relations.
• Lectures and seminars designed to engage students from a variety of disciplines including languages, law, economics, communication, and arts.
• Roundtables with NGOs and media professionals, offering practical insight into EU-Mediterranean cooperation and civic engagement.
• Workshops led by alumni, sharing firsthand experiences and guidance on EU mobility programs, internships, and opportunities for students from partner countries.

Who is it for?
Students and teaching staff across the University of Sfax who are interested in the European Union and its role in the Mediterranean region.
